This family genealogy has been hard to
trace and has been compiled from bits and pieces from word of mouth to
census
records, ship manifests any other searchable works. One source said that
Henrietta Brightenstein Hallengren
was born in 1839 in Nassau, Germany and at
the age of eight years came to America with her parents who were also
of German
birth. Their first home was in Maryland and they made a sojourn of three
months to Virginia, after which
they came as far west as Missouri and seven
years later removed from that state across the plains to California.
The
journey was made with wagons and ox-teams and six months were spent on the road,
after which the family
settled in Eldorado County.
In the 1850 Census of Page County,
Virginia, John and Charlotte are living with the Geo. Bridenstine family and I
have
found no further record of them. Christian and George were living
near each other, were they brothers? I believe so. Both on the
Neptune. William in
the same County, not on the Neptune, another brother? I believe so.
See the 1860 census below. John was not found
on the 1850 census
or the Neptune but does have children with similar names.
Maybe someone has the information to prove or disprove
these relationships.

Since this page has been online, I have had two
contacts. The first one from Darin who traced his line back to a Theodore
Bridenstine born about January 1849 in Germany who married Sarah Elizabeth
Kemmere in 1873 in Ohio. At this point, we do not see a connection but
appreciate the contact and will keep looking.
The second contact comes from Kathy in Arizona and she
is descended from #2. GEORGE C. BREIDENSTEIN. We have been comparing and
sharing and have learned a lot and learned that we have a lot to learn.
It's pretty interesting, not only are there various ways of spelling the
surname, but they all seemed to name their sons, Augustus, Christian, John, or
Theodore.
